Jane Alexander
Born in Johannesburg, Jane Alexander (1959 -) is considered one of the most celebrated contemporary artists working in South Africa to have received international recognition. Her work is informed by the experience of growing up under Apartheid. She completed a master’s degree in fine art at the University of Witwatersrand and works in sculpture, photomontages, photography, and video and is interested in human behaviour, conflicts in history, cultural memories of abuse, and the lack of global interference during apartheid. Alexander has won numerous awards during her career as a solo and group artist. Her work is included in several public collections.
