Sandile Zulu
Johannesburg is home to Sandile Zulu (1962 - ), who was born in Ixopo, KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. Sandile studied at the Rourke’s Drift Art Centre, Natal Technikon, and the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. Since graduating, he has exhibited extensively – in South Africa, the United States, Germany, France, Sweden, Scotland, and the Seychelles. His work is most often abstract, sometimes sculptural, and makes use of found objects and materials that he burns, using fire as a constructive and destructive medium in his artmaking. Zulu has received numerous international awards, including the President’s Award Grand Prize in the Seychelles Biennale of Contemporary Art. He is represented in public, corporate, and private collections around the world, including the South African National Gallery.
