Deborah Poynton
Deborah Poynton (1970 - )Born in Durban, Deborah Poynton currently lives and works in Cape Town, South Africa. She lost her parents as a child and subsequently grew up in South Africa, England, Swaziland, and the United States, often moving to different boarding schools. One constant was art, as Deborah knew from early on that she wanted to be an artist. After attending the Rhode Island School of Design in the USA, Deborah returned to South Africa and today she has studios in Cape Town and Betty’s Bay, South Africa, and in Westerwald, Germany. Her paintings are hyper-realistic and detailed - look closely and you’ll see that she captures the smallest detail, but that some elements are slightly distorted. She says: “The more we try to define something, the faster it seems to elude our grasp.” Her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions around the world, as far afield as the Netherlands Mauritius, the USA, and UAE.
