Anastasia Pather

Since graduating with a degree in Fine Art from the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), Anastasia Pather (1987 - ) has enjoyed residencies, solo and group exhibitions. She is concerned with surface, gender, and value and enjoys the ambiguity of double meanings and innuendo. Pather says her finger-painting process is intuitive and that she relies on what her fingers remember and what the paint and surface reveal. She’s fascinated by the idea of muscle memory and often wonders whether the body holds generational muscle memory too and if it does, what the impact of this would be on the world. As such her work considers what is ‘actual’, versus what is remembered or perceived.
