Abrie Fourie (1969 - )Born in Pretoria, South Africa, these days Abrie Fourie lives and works from Richmond in the Northern Cape of South Africa, as well as Berlin (Germany). His practice is largely photography based, but he is also active in teaching, publishing, and curatorial projects – including a traveling exhibition of South African video art (Mine) – that’s been shown internationally. He approaches image-making in a way that is "less about determining a place than about circling the relationship between spaces, signs, and the self, referring to the quiet tension between absence and presence, abstraction and reality."Abrie has had solo exhibitions in Europe, USA, and South Africa and he’s also taken part in important group exhibitions around the world. He has held the position of artistic direction for Modern Art Projects South Africa and lecturer at the Tshwane University of Technology.
