Willie Bester
Willie Bester (1956 - ) cited globally as one of South Africa’s most important resistance artists, Dr. Willie Bester incorporates recycled material into his paintings, assemblages, and sculptures to create powerful artworks that speak against political, social, and economic injustice. They’re hard-hitting and demand the full attention of the viewer. He was won numerous awards, including the Order of the Disa from the South African Government, and was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of KwaZulu Natal and has exhibited extensively in South Africa and elsewhere around the world. His home is Kuilsrivier in the Western Cape, South Africa, while his artworks have found their homes in important private, corporate, and public collections including the Smithsonian Institute and the David Bowie Collection.
