A Portal
to Africa
That’s what our restaurants are. So, in 2016, we created an ingenious way to bring that idea to life – Nando’s ‘Portal to Africa’. With over 50 designer-makers and around 500 pieces on the platform, It’s our world-first online collection of South African furniture and interior design. The portal’s where restaurant designers buy the eye-popping interior pieces you enjoy your hot sauce on (over 20,000 pieces and counting!) and is exclusively filled with pieces by up-and-coming artisans from our homeland.

Our homeland’s a new society, making its mark on the world with design that combines the traditional with a powerful look to the future. The designs we choose are unique and represent the spirited communities we work with and support through the Portal to Africa initiative.
Hot Young Designer
No, not a new name for our PERi-PERi sauce but, rather, the name of the annual competition we hold to get fresh talent into South African design. Hot Young Designer invites aspiring and established creatives to answer our annual design brief, and creates new, life-changing opportunities for young creatives.
All finalists (there’re too many to pick from!) get a spotlight on our Portal to Africa collection, and mentorship to build their confidence and portfolio!

to the Lourve
Thabisa Mjo is one of our programme’s rising stars. The winner of Hot Young Designer 2016, she’s since gone on to have her work showcased at design festivals around the world and is South Africa’s first designer showcased in the Louvre’s Decorative Art’s Museum.
