OUR PHILOSOPHY
At Nando’s we are committed to doing business in an ethical and sustainable way. We are alert to the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking and doing what we can to ensure it is eliminated.
OUR STRUCTURE
Nando’s operates PERi-PERi chicken restaurants in over 425 locations in the UK and Ireland. Our brand originated in South Africa, and our first UK restaurant opened in Ealing in 1992. Our head office is in Putney, in South West London.
All of our restaurants in the UK and Ireland are owned and operated by Nando’s and managed by our own employees.
OUR SUPPLY CHAINS
Our supply chains include the sourcing of raw materials, with fresh chicken, chips and soft drinks representing the major categories we purchase.
OUR POLICIES ON SLAVERY AND HUMAN TRAFFICKING
We are committed to ensuring that there is no modern slavery or human trafficking in our supply chains or in any part of our business. Our Anti-Slavery Policy reflects our commitment to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business relationships, and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure slavery and human trafficking is not taking place anywhere in our supply chains.
Measures we have taken to identify and mitigate risk include:
- All of our restaurants are owned and operated by the company directly and are managed by company employees, thus ensuring that the company’s rigorous employment processes can be implemented fully
- Where possible, we look to build longterm relationships with suppliers which allows us to make clear our expectations of the standards we expect of our partners
- We expect our suppliers to have suitable antislavery and human trafficking policies and processes. We expect our suppliers to adopt at least a ‘one-level-up’ approach to due diligence, recognising that it is not always practical for each supplier to have a direct relationship with every link in the supply chain for every input
- We carried out a risk assessment of our suppliers, which found that there were no major areas of concern.
- We have developed Management Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), which we will use to continue to monitor the risks in our supply chain, which include tracking:
- Incidences of any reports of modern slavery in our own operations
- Staff training on preventing modern slavery
- Supplier awareness of modern slavery and publication of their policy
- Incidences of any reports of modern slavery reported in the supply chain
- Modern slavery audits and site visits where appropriate
- We have asked all of our food and drink suppliers specific questions relevant to Modern Slavery and assessed their responses.
We have received copies of the modern slavery statements of our consumables suppliers.
OUR SUPPLIERS
We have zero tolerance to slavery and human trafficking. We expect all those in our supply chain and contractors to comply with our values.
TRAINING
To ensure a high level of understanding of the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking in our supply chains and our business, we have provided training to relevant members of staff. All Directors have been briefed on the subject.
This statement is made pursuant to section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and constitutes our group’s slavery and human trafficking statement for the current financial year
