In a humble restaurant in Johannesburg, South Africa our founders sat down to a plate of mouth-watering flame-grilled PERi-PERi chicken that changed their lives. PERi-PERi tends to have that effect on people, if we do say so ourselves! At the time, Robbie and Fernando may not have known much about the restaurant business, but they knew they had to take this food to the world.
Many centuries ago Portuguese explorers added a squeeze of lemon and a kick of garlic to Mozambique’s African Bird’s Eye Chilli to create a legendary spice: PERi-PERi!
Along with a hint of paprika there, a dash of onion here, PERi-PERi is most popularly used to baste tasty, tender (if it’s from Nando’s) chicken. Handed down generations, fiery family recipes for PERi-PERi eventually made their way across to the braai grills of South Africa where Nando’s story began.

The stuff we’re made of
Locally sourced chicken marinated in PERi-PERi for 24 hours (so that phenomenal flavour goes right to the bone). Free from artificial additives, colours and flavours, all our dishes are freshly prepared for you to feast on. And, if you’re counting vitamins, PERi-PERi is also rich in vitamins A, B and C – as well as capsaicin, which gives you an oh-so-fiery endorphin hit!
(All natural, of course).

Every meal we cook we’d be proud to serve to our own family – even the picky ones! We’re as legendary for our mouth-watering halloumi, minty macho peas and our marvellously naughty natas as we are for our famous flame-grilled chicken.
